1 dead, 1 injured after apparent carbon monoxide leak
Las Vegas Sun
At this point, police said it looks like accidental carbon monoxide poisoning caused by a stove. Police planned to release more information later today.
COSA NOTE: This linked article has the fire department stating “A healthy adult becomes toxic when levels reach higher than 50 parts per million with continuous exposure over an eight-hour period, according to the Las Vegas Fire Department.” 50 Parts Per Million referenced here over an 8 hour period of time is the OSHA workplace law. The home CO alarms they are recommending do not respond to 50 PPM of CO unless it is present for at least 30 days and will not respond to the next lowest level response of 70 PPM of CO where it must not alarm before 1 hour and has up to 4 hours unless it goes to 150 PPM of CO. At this next level it has between 10 minutes and one hour before alarming. 400 PPM of CO has between 4 and 15 minutes before alarming.
