Death and injury prevention are good reasons to measure and respond to carbon monoxide atmospheres.

Three construction workers who collapsed at a Northampton Community College construction site last week were overcome by carbon monoxide following blasting, according to state officials. The workers, who had to be taken to the hospital, have all since recovered..... The carbon monoxide didn't come from any accidental pipe or wire cracking, but from moving the dirt, DEP officials said. Because of the incident, DEP issued a citation to Saylorsburg-based Silver Valley requiring the company to use carbon monoxide monitors on every hole they drill. The company, which did not return calls Wednesday, also must build excavation trenches farther away from any holes that are drilled.
