This first story should never be re-written. It speaks with the truth only found in a pain too deep and frightening for most people’s comprehension, unless they too fall victim to the villain.

Protect yourself and others. Measure carbon monoxide with devices that alert you to the hazard before you get sick with any of the known symptoms of the poisoning like headache, nausea, dizziness, confusion and increased respiratory or heart difficulties. Consult a physician, get tested, but above all, protect yourselves.

CARBON monoxide is odorless. It is invisible and tasteless. When you are dying, you don't know it. In the rented three-bedroom home on Kalimna Drive, Mooroopna, this little family was being poisoned. Their gas heater mounted on the wall was left on low ... Vanessa doesn't like to cry. It's too hard to open the boxes of her children's things. She still needs to get up and go to work every day…. She can't collapse.

She wants people to know her story simply so that they learn how carbon monoxide can kill innocents. There's a lot of work to do.

"I've lost everything. That can't change. My children have lost more - they've lost their lives. They don't get to graduate from grade 6, or have their first girlfriend or buy their first car. I can't change that. "But people can get their heaters serviced every year. They can make sure it doesn't happen to them."
