“Science is a way of life. Science is a perspective. Science is the process that takes us from confusion to understanding in a manner that's precise, predictive and reliable - a transformation, for those lucky enough to experience it, that is empowering and emotional.”

Are we teaching and practicing carbon monoxide safety?
I visited a technical school that was in the process of teaching combustion analysis on a natural gas furnace. The instructor had never used a combustion analyzer in his career and had an out dated one with a non-working oxygen sensor the students were trying to figure out. This is embarrassing.

Heating ventilation and air conditioning technicians are scientists. If they do not test and measure the equipment they install or service, they are not very good scientists. Schools that do not update their instructors through training or upgrade their test instruments are not very good schools.

HVACR technicians and school instructors should stop guessing and give their customers or clients or students what they think they are paying for, accuracy and professionalism, not guess work. Prevent carbon monoxide poisoning to yourself and others. Measure carbon monoxide for safety and knowledge. The more you test the more you learn. Measurement is education at its best.
