ALBION — A rural Albion man died of carbon monoxide poisoning from a defective home furnace Sunday, the Noble County Coroner confirmed Tuesday. Maynard E. Peterson, 83, died at his home, Noble County Coroner Dr. Terry Gaff said. Gaff ruled it an accidental death. In some cases, entire families have had to receive emergency treatment. Whatcom Medic One crews recently treated a victim of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning. The patient presented with vague symptoms that mimicked a heart problem. Sophisticated medical equipment that monitors the level of oxygen and carbon monoxide in the blood stream alerted the medics, who then shifted their treatment plan, including ensuring everyone else in the home was assessed for CO exposure.
