The lowest U.L. 2034 & CSA 6.19 carbon monoxide alarm test point is:
- 70 PPM to 149 PPM – resist one hour, must alarm before 4 hours

Please read the alarm information on the package and in the instructions. Know when your fire department and emergency responders begin wearing their breathing apparatus and what their civilian evacuation levels are for carbon monoxide; it may be before 70 PPM. It is for pregnant women, infants & children, the elderly and all people of vulnerable health. Bob Dwyer, CSME Carbon Monoxide Safety

Is money more important than air?
Many of the arguments and discussions regarding the cost of low level carbon monoxide protection versus the alarms that only cost a few dollars seem rather odd in that a person would disregard the facts and choose getting ill before the cheap alarms sound their alert when and if CO begins to develop in our homes and places of work, study, recreation and worship.

It also seems odd that we can witness a history of environmental damage caused by “progress” that has occurred over the years that includes killing, injuring and damaging the health and safety of fellow humans, and that some of us will argue to suicidal ends the value of economic progress is greater than the air that sustains all life.

Perhaps future generations will laugh at our ignorant folly, maybe even feel sorry for us. I remember reading about the foolish Romans and how they used the metal lead to transport the water of life to their cities and countrymen and how they began to slowly poison themselves. And not too long ago Cleveland, Ohio suffered the brunt of humiliation in the event known as the
Cuyahoga River Fire. Sad but true, we don’t know what we don’t know until there is injury or death, or destruction.

Future generations are living with us now, and we don’t seem to care in our rush to burn more fuels of progress that our new born children are exposed to poisons that alter the promise of a good healthy life. Progress isn’t all about the money, is it? But try to promote that concept.
