Carbon Monoxide News October 5, 2012 - updated frequently

“We have nowhere else to go... this is all we have.”

Cold and flu season
The overnight temperatures the past two days here   have dropped below freezing. The terms "cold and flu" season are upon us and there will be an increase in numbers of people experiencing symptoms. Don’t forget that carbon monoxide poisoning is most often mistaken as flu-like symptoms.

One of the news links posted today discusses  the many years the hyperbaric chamber has been used for therapy and experimentation regarding carbon monoxide exposures. There is a reference in this article to their time tested submission that a person not exposed to carbon monoxide has a normally measured COHb of 2-3%. Smokers might be 8% or higher.

Measurement is education.  Hyperbaric medicine is relatively new to many health care centers, perhaps under used and still non-existent in many more. Perhaps the benefits of use could become more evident if more COHb testing occurred on symptom presenting patients.

Make sure you have carbon monoxide alarms  where you live and sleep. Know that you may still experience some illness symptoms before the alarm sounds if you do not have a low level alarm. If there are not CO alarms where you work or visit, I guess you should… Have carbon monoxide protection and be responsible for the air you breathe, no guessing about it.
