Carbon Monoxide News - June 1, 2012

“If your happiness depends on what somebody else does, I guess you do have a problem.” Richard Bach (1936, about)

When carbon monoxide is breathed in, it reduces the amount of oxygen delivered to each cell in your body. This can begin a chain reaction of health complications.

What are the symptoms of CO poisoning?
CO poisoning mimics many common illnesses, such as food poisoning. It is most frequently misdiagnosed as a flu-like syndrome. The following is a list of a few common symptoms.

· headaches · loss of hearing · dizziness · depression · blurry vision · cardiac arrest  · disorientation· respiratory failure · weakness · vomiting · coma · painful discomfort  · loss of consciousness ·muscle aches & soreness · memory disorders · seizures  · nausea · rapid heartbeat · chronic tiredness · slurry speech · and additional symptoms of illnesses

This list is not meant to serve as a diagnosis of carbon monoxide poisoning. It is meant to provide general information on poisoning symptoms. Oxidative stress causes a chain reaction in the body due to the interruption of oxygen intake. Get out and stay out of CO atmosphere’s.

Consult with a health care provider who can test you when you are presenting symptoms, particularly if they are chronic or frequent in nature.

Knowledgeable health care providers, using non-invasive testing can quickly and accurately begin to determine if carbon monoxide poisoning is occuring. A blood sample followed by lab test verifications may also be the method used in facilities who have not yet modernized to these painless methodologies. See (See RAD-57)

You could also own a low level carbon monoxide alarm with a digital display and determine for yourself if you or others in the vicinity of the alarm are breathing in carbon monoxide at levels not distinguished by the most commonly used alarms! See CO Experts. You have to ask your self "Who is responsible for the air I breathe?"    Bob Dwyer, CSME Carbon Monoxide Safety
