Carbon Monoxide Exposure is the Equalizer, Everywhere
The home or the building you live, work in or visit may contain malfunctioning oil, gas or wood furnaces, boilers, water heaters, space heaters, cooking systems or fireplaces that are already producing large amounts of CO. Each and every one of these combustion systems require thorough testing to assure their safety and efficiency. They do not need to produce dangerous levels of CO if working properly.  These buildings may also have adjoining or attached automotive hazards. Many of these buildings may not have a carbon monoxide alarm.

Your hired technician should have a combustion analyzer, leak detector and carbon monoxide detection instrumentation at minimum to complete the work correctly. The number of consumers that have their home combustion appliances serviced by certified technicians using specific test instruments for measurement verifications is still quite low compared to the number of systems in use. Do not treat this lightly, get these systems tested. Make sure you get a detailed measurement report when you have your systems tested or inspected.

You may also be exposed to CO on a boat, on a bus, in a car, in a house, on a street, at a construction site, almost everywhere; be careful, know how much you are in.

Whenever you barbeque, always cook in open, outside air; even open sided carports or awning tents cannot insure that harmful gases will be dispersed safely. Never use these charcoal, propane, natural gas, wood or other similarly fueled unvented barbeque systems indoors. There are many types of open exhaust systems that should never be in operation inside buildings and even in some roof port or awning situations. Know the difference! Protect yourself and others before CO causes sickness or worse.

Note this distraction from carbon monoxide poisoning:
Bald Eagle Camera Alcoa Bald Eagle Camera, Davenport, Iowa.

A friend of mine notified me that the pair of bald eagles has returned to their nest along the Mississippi River in Davenport, Iowa. The Alcoa Company has their web cam up and running and viewing of the nest is possible during daylight hours, Central Standard Time, US. Two eggs in the nest.
UPDATE: Hatching has begun. Fresh caught fish, rodents and other game animals will be brought to the nest. The Alcoa Eagle website gives a good history of the pair and the company’s involvement with them. If you haven’t viewed this site through the hatching and growth of the eaglets, I think you may find it to be quite a live sight to see when you may have those periodic spare moments. This link will be posted on this site for those people who may wish to capture the link and watch the cycle of life of this nesting pair.

What does this have to do with carbon monoxide safety?
It is just a live web cam, perhaps a distraction from the headlines of death and injury. Please become aware of the air you breathe. Measurement is education. Measure your air accurately when measuring carbon monoxide.
