 As of January 2010, 24 states have enacted laws regarding carbon monoxide detectors or smoke alarms: Alaska, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Rhode Island, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
