Dangers Of Carbon Monoxide On Boats
KEYE TV
It's a danger most people don't think about on the lake, but every year Lake Travis Fire Rescue does get a few calls a year relating to carbon monoxide poisoning on the lake… "Only a couple of deep breaths can be fatal if that occurs in those high concentration areas," says Lake Travis Fire Rescue Battalion Chief Scott Fernandes… Those concentrated areas include the back of the boat where motor exhaust vents…

7 Summer Safety Tips for INSIDE the Home
Fox 2 KFXV
5. Gas or charcoal grills and barbecues should never be used inside the home, or even close by on a porch or in the garage. These and other fuel burning appliances give off deadly carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless gas. Buy and use carbon monoxide detectors; install them on each level of your home, specifically outside each sleeping area. While you’re at it, invest in a few smoke alarms too…

Why is Carbon Monoxide used in meat and fish?
Science of Cooking
Carbon monoxide binds hemoglobin in much the same way that oxygen does, only 200x stronger. In fact CO will displace oxygen from hemoglobin (or myoglobin) because it has such great affinity for hemoglobin. It is a known fact that carbon monoxide is used in processed meats and fish to keep the color of blood red for long periods of time…

We have all been CO poisoned, some more than others
The following link takes you to a site with views from those who have been poisoned. The seriousness of carbon monoxide poisoning, the grief, suffering and disorientations experienced are clearly portrayed with the intent to help others and prevent future poisonings. With respect, please visit:

What is in the air you are breathing right now?
What will you be doing today; walking into poison?
Who will be responsible for the air you breathe?
You may be the only person who can prevent your own poisoning.

We are all vulnerable to carbon monoxide exposure and poisoning.
Everyone has been poisoned by CO and will be poisoned again. The degree of the poisoning depends upon allowing yourself to be in a situation where someone else controls the air you breathe and the mechanisms for alarming notification.

Please read the alarm information on the package and in the instructions that come with the carbon monoxide alarm. Know that if it is a U.L. 2034 Listed product (or CSA 6.19 Listed), it is a high level alarm that has been tested to alarm no sooner than 70 PPM at the lowest (the alarm must resist for one hour when above this level) and when over 400 PPM before 15 minutes at the highest concentration, after resisting alarming for 4 minutes when over this level.

Know when your fire department and emergency responders begin wearing their breathing apparatus and what their civilian evacuation levels are for carbon monoxide; it may be as soon as the gas is present in your presence. Pregnant women, infants & children, people with heart & respiratory struggles, those suffering depression or chronic headaches and all people of vulnerable health should be alerted as soon as the gas begins to concentrate, around 10 PPM (parts per million) or lower.

You most likely need a low level carbon monoxide detector to sound off when carbon monoxide hazards are just beginning, not after you’ve been exposed to levels that make you have headaches, flu-like symptoms, increased tiredness, heart stresses or worse.

Do not take risks with carbon monoxide. Take responsibility for the air you breathe and the combustion systems you are responsible for. If you don’t do it for yourself, do it for others, unless you think $45.00, high level protection is good enough.

Help prevent injuries and deaths; don’t guess about carbon monoxide. Measure carbon monoxide for safety and knowledge. The more you test the more you learn.

Hotel room deaths raise carbon monoxide concerns for travelers
NBC News – Rob Lovitt
A trio of deaths at a hotel in Boone, N.C., two by carbon monoxide and one by asphyxia, could have travelers wondering if they should be concerned about running out of oxygen on their next vacation… “Travelers should be concerned,” said Ted Panagiotopoulos, owner of Fire & Life Safety Concepts LLC, in Wilton, Conn. “Anywhere there are fuel-fired appliances being used where you have the potential for carbon monoxide to build up, you should have CO detection.”

Are your properties meeting the requirements for smoke and carbon monoxide alarms?
Property118
The changes will take effect in October… Every floor of a property requires a working smoke alarm and a test must be carried out at the start of every tenancy. Equally, carbon monoxide alarms will be required in any room used for living accommodation that contains a ‘solid fuel burning combustion appliance.’ Failure to meet these requirements means possible…

The Project Zero campaign is aimed at reducing fire and carbon monoxide deaths in west Niagara, and throughout the province, to zero… It’s sad that the message is still needed these days. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are required by law in the province, yet no matter how many times the message to install them is shared, there is still a segment of the population who just doesn’t get it… Enbridge donated more than 3,000 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to communities across Ontario, including Grimsby, to help spread the message…
