Can air pollution shift rain bands and cause drought?
Summit County Citizens Voice
FRISCO — A decades-long drought in central Africa may have been caused by air pollution from industrial sources in the northern hemisphere. The drought peaked in the mid-1980s, as Lake Chad nearly dried up and researchers initially pointed to ... but this was the first study that used decades of historical observations to find that this drought was part of a global shift in tropical rainfall, and then used multiple climate models to determine why.

How much carbon monoxide is too much?
Human reactions to oxidative stress may vary significantly due to age, sex, weight and overall state of health of the individual.

The human body has specific requirements regarding the flow of air & fuel into the dynamic conversion mechanism that generates life. When oxygen begins to be displaced, breakdowns of function begin as do errant neural firings and symptoms begin to occur.

In the laws of fire and combustion, where fuel, air and heat are required to be within specific ranges for complete combustion to occur when you take one of the 3 components away, combustion stops. If air and fuel are not proportioned exactly through the heat then the quality of combustion degrades. The human combustion system functions similarly.

The quality of combustion is dependent upon the quality of the fuel, the air-fuel mixture and the temperature of the process. The flame only needs about 28 to 43 per cent of the oxygen in the air and exhausts the excess. If fuel air & heat are within complete combustion conditions, the equipment should be operating within manufacturer specifications.

The quality of human life is dependent upon the quality of the air breathed in, the quality of the fuel eaten and the temperature of the process. If fuel, air & heat are within complete combustion conditions, the human should be within manufacturer specifications. The human life needs 100 percent of the oxygen in the air. (The lowest U.L. 2034 & CSA 6.19 carbon monoxide alarm test point is:
- 70 PPM to 149 PPM – resist one hour, must alarm before 4 hours

Please read the alarm information on the package and in the instructions. Know when your fire department and emergency responders begin wearing their breathing apparatus and what their civilian evacuation levels are for carbon monoxide; it may be before 70 PPM. It is for pregnant women, infants & children, the elderly and all people of vulnerable health. Bob Dwyer, CSME Carbon Monoxide Safety)

Increased education, awareness can prevent carbon monoxide poisoning
Minnesota Department of Commerce

As part of Winter Hazard Awareness Week (November 5-9), the Minnesota Department of Commerce warns Minnesotans of the dangers of carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning and to take steps to avoid this “silent killer.”
